Well got out to the stand this morning and it was nice to have dark enough to get to the stand without being busted from 200 yards away. I get to my stand at about 6:00 and start setting up my video Camera. The mount is a little tricky to use in the dark and especially when it is mounted above my head. I finally get the camera up and get settled in and at about 45 minuets later I spot some movement to the north of me. Its still dark but there’s definitely some deer moving around. I figure ...More Read More

Well the 30th of Sept. My 7 year old Landry and I got up at 5 am and showering off with the dirt smelling soap for hunters and started trekking out to the deer stand where I shot my Doe the morning before. Once in the stand she took a little nap till it got light and then was up and alert in a flash when I told her the feeder was about to go off. well about ten minuets after the feeder went off and a hundred "when are the deer "coming" we saw some movement in the brush in front of us.A cou ...More Read More

Well its opening morning and I get to the stand about 5:45 am and with the moon so full its like daylight. I get to my Ameristep Dog House and get settled in and realize that I need to get video camera on the tripod and of course while it is bright outside, it is pitch black inside. This makes a simple job impossible and so I’m cursing myself for not doing it last night when I first thought about doing it. My flashlight is in my new backpack which has about 30 pockets on it. Since it is new ...More Read More

Well things seem to be looking up a little as everything was working this weekend when I checked out my feeders. I even have a backup timer now after I Frankenstein 3 different types of old ones to make one new one. I got a few photos of some deer around where my 2 person ladder stand is and a good number deer around on of my new feeder setups. I ran some doe off a popup setup and finally got my last 2 feeders running which I think will both be good for some action. My tripod and my other l ...More Read More

Well this is my first post of the season and I since I am an optimist I going to forecast a good season even though not much has gone correctly so far. I am seeing plenty of deer even though I am only here on weekends. No bucks yet but that’s not surprising be cause I usually only see them early in the morning when I take My girls to school. Since that doesn’t occur any more I’ll just have to have faith that the elusive Muy Grande is there just waiting to be arrowed. My wife on the other h ...More Read More

Opening gun morning I decided to hit the stand and try to score on the buck that I captured on the game cam this august. a nice 10 point with a hooked tip on the right beam. Well it was barely 7:15 and I hear crunching off to the south west which is behind the large pecan tree that my homemade stand was on. It circled around the back side of the tree and came around to the feeder. And grazed on some grass before it began to head off I had to make my move quickly as it was heading out of range. ...More Read More

Went out to drop off a hunter in a stand and so I thought I would sit in my tripod just to see if I would have any luck myself. Well it came time for the feeder to go off and what do you know, a fox came walking by. Well I gave it a little squeak and it stopped so I drew down on it and let the arrow fly. Unfortunately with the fox being only 10 yards away and me forgetting to adjust for elevation too I shot over it. Well this fox wasn't too sly because it just began to walk away. I nocked anoth ...More Read More

March 3rd of 2004 a tornado ripped across about 7 miles of Mills County. While it was crossing our property it took out 4 old chicken barns and several sheds. Well after 2 years of repairs and cleanup we had a lot of scrap metal laying around and so thought I would build myself a ladder stand. I had hunted out of one last year and enjoyed the feeling you get when deer calmly feed right under your stand with no idea you are there. I am not that good at making plans but I had a general idea of wh ...More Read More
