It all started on a public holiday when me and one of my hunting pals decided to go and look for a huge klipspringer we saw before. The Rowland Ward record for klipspringer is 6 and 1/8 of an inch we estimated the one we saw at between 6 and 6.5 inches.Klipspringer is antelope that prefer mountain areas and rocky terrain almost never setting foot on solid ground because it slows them down and makes them vulnerable to predators, they live in pairs consisting of a ram and an ewe and sometimes a lam could be found with them as well. There full body weight is about 30lb's.

The morning started by loading the ATV, after loading my bow the gun and some food and all the essentials for a trip away from home for the day we set of along the foot of the mountain. We came to a point were we had to drive up the mountain, now imagine this; 2 big guys on a 250cc ATV with all there baggage driving up one of the highest mountains in the area.We succeeded in the end and we got on top to our destination where we would walk from.

When we started walking we spotted some Mountain Rheedbuck so we decided to stalk them and try to shoot one with the bow they saw us and set off.

We went on looking for our klipspringer and only saw some baboons that had a helluva fright when they saw us and ran all over the place and spooked everything possibly close. We walked in a differnet direction than the baboons to get around them.As we lost sight of the baboons suddenly the bush burst open right in front of us, it was 3 klipspringer, loosing sight of them we tried to find out where they went because of the rocky terrain we couldn't find any tracks.Eventually we found a track between the rocks and stalked in the general direction. We found them again and saw the ram wasn't as big as the one we saw before,we decided to take him because of possibilities that he might have warn he's horns down and it was still a pretty good one.

My friend took the shot at 100yards with his .243 Blazer and it dropped right there in it's tracks.

The horns measured 4.5inches making a good trophy his going to let it be full mounted.

The day was a great success and I even shot a warthog on the way back I'm still looking for that Mountain Rheedbuck with my bow.
